So This Happened At Work Today

I work at a big tech company as a software engineer. My team is pretty chill, but I've always felt like an outsider because of the way people talk about things that aren't really my thing, you know? Like sports or video games, not me. Anyway, so today we had this big meeting and our boss announced this new project that everyone was super hyped for. The idea is to develop a new app feature that would let users customize their experience in some wild ways. I'm all about innovation, but there's one thing that got under my skin, during the presentation, they mentioned adding VR support as an optional extra. Now, I love technology and always have, but when it comes to VR, I just can't get into it. It’s like, every time someone talks about it, I feel this weird mix of anxiety and annoyance. So after the meeting, I told my closest coworker, Alex, how much I didn’t want us to go that route with the project. And then, before I could stop myself, I started talking really loud in our lunch room about all the reasons VR was bad for productivity, and why it wouldn't work for most users. People around me were giving me these looks like they wanted to argue or just leave. The thing is, even as this was happening, part of me felt this thrill, a weird giddiness from standing up for something I believed in so strongly. But another part of me was scared that people would think I'm some kind of crazy person who doesn’t understand the future. Now everyone's looking at me like there’s an issue here. Should I have spoken up? Was it too much? Am I just being overly sensitive about VR or is this normal to feel when you really don't want something pushed forward in your workplace? What would you do if you were me? Would you apologize, chill out and let them handle the project their way, or should I still try to voice my concerns privately with someone else? Am I just being dramatic for nothing here?
