My Art Teacher Deserves This Portrait... Or Does She?

So here's a thing that happened last week. I've been working on my portrait skills all year, and this is the first time we're doing self-portraits as part of our end-of-year project for art class. It's also my teacher Ms. Davis' favorite type of artwork. We know she loves to collect these paintings because there are a lot in her house already. So basically, I have two weeks to finish and turn in my work. Now here's where things get tricky. I've been really nervous about it though. The last thing I want is to disappoint Ms. Davis because that would be the worst feeling ever, right? But honestly, the thought of her hanging my portrait on a wall, knowing I did well, gives me butterflies and nerves, you know what I mean? I think I get too much into these kinds of things, sometimes. And then something happened last Thursday. You see, Ms. Davis was working with another student one-on-one while the rest of us were working quietly on our sketches. But we heard her shouting, telling him to stop being lazy and finish his work. This is unusual because she's always so calm and gentle when she speaks in class. After that incident, I started feeling conflicted about this project. I still want to do well, but the way Ms. Davis reacted made me wonder if it's worth putting all my effort into a piece for someone who might treat you like that once the cameras are off. I mean, she treats us nicely in front of everyone, but does that change when we're not looking? Anyway, I started working on my portrait and decided to portray Ms. Davis as how I saw her during that outburst, which wasn't pretty at all. It's this very candid painting where you can see the stress lines around her eyes, and there's a hint of aggression in the way she looks back at the viewer. The idea was to show everyone who sees it what I think is going on beneath her mask. The thing is, I haven't shown anyone yet because I'm still unsure if this is fair to her or not. Is it my place as an artist to reflect reality like this? Or am I overthinking and turning something simple into a complicated mess? Anyway, that's the confession. It's just on my mind and needed to get out.
