Lost My Cool Over A Coffee Spill

So I was at my local coffee shop yesterday morning, and you know how those early mornings can be quite reflective? Anyway, it’s one of those places where you feel like they remember your face from regular visits but not enough to know your name or preferences. This day, I went in with a list of items for the kids at work and decided on something simple, a black coffee with two sugars because that’s what I usually get. Now, why do we always rush when we’re getting older? Maybe it's trying to reclaim some lost time. So there I was, barista chatting away about today’s weather while I’m thinking about how late last night’s TV show kept me up and wondering if the roast from yesterday has gone stale already (it hadn’t). But here comes the part where I confess, as I was rushing back to work with my cup of coffee, holding a bunch of other items for people who can't get them themselves because 'why bother?' It happens that just outside the door, someone walks in behind me and trips slightly over the welcome mat. Naturally, their arm hits mine, and suddenly, there’s a spilt coffee all over one side of my shirt. And here’s where it gets silly, I lost my cool! There was no reason for this reaction except maybe feeling like my day had officially gone downhill from that moment. I yelled something about being careful (but not sorry) and hurried to get the stain out before anyone noticed too much at work. I think everyone thought I'd spilled coffee on purpose or something. But now, thinking back, it seems quite irrational for someone in their 50s to have such a reaction over a little spilt coffee, doesn’t it? Maybe they just reminded me of my own clumsiness, but either way, here's the confession: I lost my temper and yelled at a stranger for spilling coffee on me when there was really no reason to do so. A bit childish if you ask me.
