So This Happened At Work Yesterday

Okay, so I'm really new at this job and today was my first day. You know how everyone tells you to be yourself but also not to draw too much attention? Well, here's where things got weird. In the morning meeting, we were supposed to introduce ourselves. So, I did what felt natural, talked about my love for organizing stuff, and mentioned I bring a notebook with me everywhere to jot down ideas. Nothing too crazy there, right? But then one of my coworkers asked if I had any pets or hobbies. And you know how it goes when you're nervous; the brain starts firing off random connections. So instead of saying something normal like 'I love hiking,' out comes 'When I was a kid, my pet parakeet taught me Morse code.' Yeah, okay. It's definitely true, but let’s just say not everyone is going to have that on their list of conversation starters in a professional setting. After the meeting, people were really nice and kept asking more about it like they believed me (though I suspect some might think I'm pulling their leg). The weird part for me was this feeling of being too different. Like my love for organizing is okay to talk about because everyone can relate, but birds who do code? That's something else entirely. So here’s what I’m wondering: Am I just overthinking everything, or am I right to feel a bit out of place when no one really knows me yet? And if anyone has tips on how to blend in while still being true to myself, let me know. Is it normal for people to have weird stories that they don't share at work? Or is there something off about not sharing every quirky thing about yourself from day one?
