That Time I Sold The Last Item

So today at work, there was only one bottle of the store-brand hand sanitizer left. This isn't exactly a big deal, except it's been flying off the shelves during flu season and everyone wants to get their hands on it. My manager had just mentioned we'd need to order more stock soon, but I really wanted to grab that last bottle myself because my friend needed some for her mom’s nursing home visit. So when a customer asked if there were any left, instead of admitting there was only one and possibly getting passed over, I said they could check the back room where we don't typically keep extras. It feels small but sneaky, like I outsmarted everyone to get what I wanted for my friend.
