My Little White Lie at Work This Week

So this week has been one of those weeks where you're not really sure what day it is and your brain feels like mush. You know that feeling when Monday feels like Wednesday, and Tuesday is just a repeat? Yeah, I’ve had the whole work-week thing messed up in my head. But let me tell you about something small that happened on Thursday, it felt more like a Saturday to me! I was in a meeting with the team where our boss announced we'd be doing some cross-department presentations next week as part of our company's internal training program. Everyone seemed excited, except for me because I knew I had no idea what my presentation would even look like, let alone how to present it. The thing is, I've been slacking a bit in terms of learning the new software we’ve rolled out, you know, just that little extra stuff that isn’t absolutely necessary right now. But as soon as our boss mentioned this coming week's presentation, my stomach dropped like a stone and I felt the heat rising to my cheeks. Then came Friday morning when everyone else seemed energized about their upcoming projects while I was stressing over not knowing anything substantial enough for a good presentation. My heart pounded as I walked into the office early just to check if anyone had any new information or tips for me. That's when I saw my colleague, Alex, chatting away at his desk, looking calm and collected, totally confident in their ability to nail this thing. So I did something that made me feel a bit guilty: I pretended that our boss’s announcement was actually referring to next month instead of the coming week. ‘Oh great,’ I said to myself, ‘I can put it off until then’, which really felt more like a week from Monday than anything. The moment passed and now here we are Saturday night, okay, technically Sunday morning because my days get mixed up, and while everyone else is probably planning their presentations, I’m still figuring out how to pretend next month was the deadline instead of this week. It's silly and petty, but it feels like a small victory against overwhelming stress until I can actually catch up on everything. So there you go, my confession for today is about lying to myself to feel better about my current work situation. Not exactly a life-altering secret or anything major, just something that's been weighing on me this week and made me feel a little more at ease with myself.
