A Little Dishonesty for Ice Cream Privileges

So here's the thing. I've been at college for a couple of months now and I'm still figuring out how to navigate dorm life while maintaining my sanity. We have this shared fridge in our room, and it turns out that there are some rules about who gets to put what inside it. For instance, we agreed that if someone leaves food behind, they lose their rights to the ice cream freezer for a week. Got it? Okay, so last night I was really craving some mint chocolate chip ice cream, but alas, my supply had run out weeks ago. I checked the fridge and found an unopened carton of strawberry sorbet that looked like it had been there since the beginning of the semester. No one claimed it in our group chat either. The thing is, I hate strawberry sorbet. It's just not a flavor I can stand. But I decided to be sneaky about it and put my name on it in case someone else wanted it back later. Then, I left the fridge door open for a moment before closing it and heading out of our room. As soon as I got back from the dining hall with my mint chocolate chip, everyone was buzzing because they thought someone had claimed the sorbet. It felt kind of petty to lie about that strawberry sorbet like this, but it gave me an excuse to enjoy some ice cream at 10 PM on a school night. And hey, who doesn't want that? So now I've got this weird guilt hanging over my head every time I pass the open fridge door thinking, 'Did I really just do that?' But then again, there's nothing quite like mint chocolate chip at midnight to remind you why college life is worth a few small lies.
